The Science Behind Breathwork
Breathing is more than an automatic reflex, it is one of the fastest ways to influence physiology in real time. Slow diaphragmatic breathing with longer exhales supports parasympathetic activation, improves heart rate variability (HRV), and reduces stress hormone output. Nasal breathing enhances oxygen efficiency through nitric oxide and supports vascular and immune defence. This article summarizes the clinical science of breathwork and includes Box Breathing (4-4-4-4).
